Upon arriving at the Diocese of Arlington, VA Workcamp, i was immediately impressed with the grandeur of the set up in the program room...dual projection screens, draped scaffolding, truss lighting, flown speakers, the works. It looked more like a diocesan youth conference than a workcamp. More impressive, however, was that EVERYONE from the program director to the sound technician possessed a deeply rooted faith life.
I was somewhat blown away when attending and OPTIONAL prayer with the staff and the entire media crew were there, toting their Shorter Christian Prayer Books. Having spent 10 years in diocesan ministry and a few years of traveling to other dioceses, I have never seen this level of devotion among every member of the organization team. This commitment to prayer permeated every aspect of the conference and made the experience truly special for the campers and adult alike.
Some of the highlights for me were...
-eating Swedish Fish for the first time
-Daily mass
-spending some QT with Jesse (the man makes a mean PB&J)
-conversations at the local coffee shop
-setting up a Facebook account...thanks Naj
-having a great backup singer...thanks Kel
-the lunchbox cafe
-adoration and the Eucharistic procession...powerful!
-being referred to as “Cooper P Ray” all week
-following in the footsteps of “the other guy”...thanks Steve
-introducing Hot Tamales to a camper who had never eaten them...she took the rest of the box
-spending time at the worksites
-the ride to back to D.C...great conversation...thanks Chip |
